Handing Over the Keys of the Chemo Car

01 July 2009

John Pincock, managing director of 2020 Liverpool and 2020 Knowsley, has handed over the keys of the new chemo car to staff at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology.

The Centre purchased the car with the money raised by 2020 Liverpool and 2020 Knowsley last year, through staff fundraising and corporate donation.  Employees of 2020 quizzed, hiked, dressed down, recycled and even threw themselves out of aeroplanes to raise a total of nearly £13,000 for the charity.  Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology spent the money on a brand new Vauxhall Zafira "chemo car" which will enable them to take cancer treatments to different locations around the Merseyside region, so that patients won't have to travel to the Centre to receive their treatment.  The car is branded with the 2020 Liverpool and 2020 Knowsley logos to acknowledge the company's support.

John handed over the keys to Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology's chief executive Andrew Cannell, chemotherapy day case unit ward manager Carol Gregson and chemotherapy nurse Ron Thondickal.

"We really appreciate the support, and all the effort that has gone into providing this car for us," said Carol.  "It will make a big difference to the service we provide for our patients, and it's already in great demand."
